The Breakaway

EXHAUSTED!

We hiked 12 miles and more than half of that was uphill!... is that possible?  Well it seemed like it.  We hiked from the bottom of Zion Canyon to Observation Point... shunning the all-to-easy "Angels Landing" which is only 6 mile hike.  Then we added a side trip to "Hidden Canyon".  More up hill and we had to use chains to prevent falling to our deaths which seemed like a nice thing for the park to do.  Would you like to know how many actual steps that is?... probably not but I'll tell you anyhow... 26909... remember more than half of that was uphill.   Actually it was a fabulous hike... probably the most exciting, thrilling (from the danger of falling to our deaths), breathtaking (a view from above of Zion Canyon and all the major mountains) and tiring (for reasons I've already hinted at).  We loved it and would do it again.  The pictures will in no way convey the serious thrill of this hike.  But I'll put some on here anyway.

A very small section of the trail.

Wouldn't want to take a tumble from there!

Small slot canyon along the way.

Near the top.

Why "The Breakaway"?

The focus of this blog is to allow the reader to breakaway from your day to see how our days are going and find out what we have been doing and where we have been.

Our "Breakaway" is patterened after a bike race... rather than just the human race. The group that moves out front... ahead of the peleton... the main group of riders... is called "the breakaway. They leave the group behind and pursue the goal on their own.

For those who really love symbolism (which I'm sure applies to all who would bother to read this) we want to point out an even deeper meaning to this. As followers of Jesus we know that we must breakaway from the crowd and pursue the narrow way rather than the broad way.
