We left the Tri-Cities on Sunday April 1st. We were able to attend a very good and very different church service at Quinalt Baptist Church. The worship leader was barefoot but this was contrasted with a very good sermon.
We stayed that first night at Farewell Bend State Park in Oregon. It is on the Snake River as you can see on the picture. We found this to be a beautiful peaceful place. The river is wide and flowing strongly around a large bend then disappearing behind a mountain ... hence the name Farewell Bend. The scene reminds me of the beautiful old hymn "Peace Like a River" Peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. How like this river God's peace is... powerful and everything it touches is affected and changed by it. We have been criss-crossing over the Snake over and over as we travel south and east. In fact we camped on it again last night at Burley ID. The river meanders all over the place and everywhere the river goes it leaves a large smooth valley. It powerfully levels the mountains that are always off in the distance or nearby. God's peace is like that. He levels the rough spots of life and brings peace and creates places where growth can occur. Even the mountains of our lives can be brought low by Him. I have a dear friend who has a mountain in her life... no one can level this... it is huge, but I believe that our great God can smooth out the way and bring peace and in fact that is happening already. This river has done an amazing work on the landscape in this part of the country and God can do an amazing work in us and through us. If your life doesn't seem like this peaceful place then perhaps as you trust in His powerful ways He will smooth out the flow for you.
We are off today toward Salt Lake City and beyond.
Love this, you two. Sorry about tennis matches coming to an end, but there are undoubtedly even greater experiences awaiting you.
ReplyDeleteLove you - we're off to Lowe's for a dimmer switch for the dining room, then to Pullman tomorrow because it's Drew's 21st birthday. Her parents, brothers and Cal and I are going down to take her to dinner, stay over and come back Thursday.
"Happy trail until we meet again." Wow, great song lyrics - OH, I think someone already used them.
Hi, Susan (and Dave)-I was wanting to call and talk to you. this will have to suffice! Glad you are having some new adventures! I love your word pictures! I am off of school for a week! It's great having time at home. We just went to Bellingham to visit our little grandkids, now 3 1/2 and 4 mos. So fun! skyped with them a couple seconds ago. Tim has set his retirement date for 2015, mine will come June of 2014 I think...God has me where I am for His glory! I will stay in the evening class as long as I am working...for my own strengthening and staying strong in the work world. Have I told you, I was awarded a teacher grant assisting me to go down to Guatemala again this summer...but with the school. We will stay with Bea and help the English teachers. I need to practice Spanish, and this way I can get some practice and help the teachers in the process. Want to be a blessing! Have a wonderful trip...I'll try to follow you this week especially. Love to you both!
